Game Recap Hill-Murray took care of business with a 3-0 opening round win, setting up a showdown against defending state champion and undefeated Roseau. Joe Phillippi made all 18 saves to once again anchor a defense that has allowed only two goals in four playoff games, and Ryan Furne led the way offensively with two goals. Linemate Dan Cecka scored the other goal for the Pioneers. Furne scored the only goal of the first period with exactly three minutes remaining, picking up a loose puck in the slot and firing it past South goalie Hakan Yumusaklar's glove. That came as Hill-Murray was starting to assert itself after South had played a tight checking game through the first ten minutes. The Pioneers ended the period with a 9-4 shot advantage and a 1-0 lead. After an effective penalty kill to start the second period, Hill-Murray scored its second goal at 4:36. Cecka worked the puck free along the boards in the neutral zone and skated up the left side on a 2-on-1 before firing a low shot into the net. Furne gave the Pioneers a commanding lead in the final minute of the middle frame, drilling a shot into the net from close range after taking a centering pass from Tyler Zepeda who had stickhandled behind the net. Lakeville South had few open chances but managed a half dozen shots from in or near the crease, forcing Phillippi to earn the shutout with some dazzling saves, capped by a 5-on-3 penalty kill in the waning stages of the third period.
