Game Recap Two shorthanded goals on the same penalty broke open what had been a close game and Hill-Murray wrapped up its Classic Suburban schedule with a win. The Pioneers clinched at least a share of the conference title and finished 15-1 in conference play for the second straight year. Joe Phillippi made 13 saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Hill-Murray scored three shorthanded goals overall in this game and five overall against Mahtomedi this year. It was an even-strength goal that put the Pioneers ahead, but it was scored by Andy Singerhouse who had just stepped out of the penalty box. Isaac Kohls flipped a pass from just inside the Mahtomedi blue line for the first of his three assists, and Singerhouse caught the pass while streaking to the net and put in a backhand for the game's first goal. The reunited line of Kohls, Dan Cecka, and Jeff Westerhaus made it 2-0 early in the second period. Westerhaus fed Kohls who took a hard wrist shot from the right circle, which got behind goalie Gordie Linder and was tapped in by Cecka before anyone else could find it. Mahtomedi continued to frustrate Hill-Murray for ten minutes after the goal, blocking many passes but not putting many quality shots of their own on net. When the Zephyrs finally got an opportunity to go on the offensive with a power play late in the period, Hill-Murray struck twice. Bo Dolan intercepted a pass at center ice, skated in and beat Linder on the blocker side from 40 feet. Thirteen seconds later, Tyler Zepeda and Dan Cecka worked a 2-on-1. Cecka's shot hit the post, but Zepeda pounced on the rebound and got it just over the goal line, giving Hill-Murray a comfortable 4-0 lead after two periods. The Pioneers added two more in the third. Dan Sova made a nice pass out of the left corner to Nick Larson, who scored his team leading 27th goal on a wrist shot from 25 feet. Shorthanded but dangerous again, Kohls stole the puck at the blue line and was stopped on a breakaway. Westerhaus was held trying to get into the play, drawing a delayed penalty, but got on his feet in time to put the rebound in.
