Game Recap Eden Prairie came into Aldrich Arena and ended Hill-Murray's seven game unbeaten streak, defeating the Pioneers 2-1 in a matchup of the winners of the two top holiday tournaments a week ago. Goaltenders Andrew Ford and Tim Shaughnessy were both rock solid and the teams played fast and physical. Eden Prairie appeared to have an edge in offensive zone time thanks to an aggressive forecheck, but Hill-Murray occasionally managed to outwit their defensemen to get odd-man rushes. Kyle Rau scored an unassisted goal at 11:37 of the second period after working the puck out of the corner, cutting to the net and scoring on his own rebound. Moments earlier, Rau was stopped on a breakaway right after exiting the penalty box with one of Shaughnessy's better saves. Both teams had chances late in the second period as the game opened up, and Hill-Murray repeatedly deflected shots or sent pucks through the crease but couldn't get anything past Ford. Jake Guentzel scored the Pioneers' lone goal in the third period, burying a rebound of Bobby Bruski's shot set up by Luke Voltin's pass. That line had many of Hill-Murray's best scoring chances throughout. The game winning goal was scored by senior wing Luc Gerdes, who along with Rau was Eden Prairie's most dangerous forward. Gerdes worked a give-and-go with Andrew Knudsen out of the corner and tucked the puck just inside the far post.
