Game Recap One goal was enough for Hill-Murray to get back to the state tournament. Frustrated for two-plus periods by a collapsing White Bear defense and netminder Chase Gorman, the Pioneers finally broke the deadlock with 7:28 remaining. Joey Anderson worked the puck out of the left wing corner and slid it back to Davis Zarembinski, whose shot sailed over Gorman's right shoulder. Zarembinski, a sophomore defenseman, had not scored all season until the section quarterfinal. He also broke up perhaps the Bears' best scoring chance, deflecting a pass with his skate on a second period 2-on-1 rush. The goal came on Hill-Murray's 31st shot. The Pioneers finished the game with a 40-15 shot advantage, and seemed to spend more and more time in the White Bear zone as time went on. However, White Bear was successful in clogging dangerous areas and allowed few open shots until after the Hill-Murray goal. Not to be outdone, Hill-Murray's defense and backchecking almost completely eliminated any offense the Bears attempted. John Dugas was called on for a couple critical saves in the waning minutes, kicking out his right pad to stop a shot after a mad scramble near the crease, and snaring a bullet from the blue line seconds later. Each team had one full power play and the Bears were also penalized for tackling Josh French on his way to a sure empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining. White Bear Lake concludes its season 17-10-1. Hill-Murray takes a record of 25-2-1 into next week's state tournament.
