Game Recap Wayzata handed Hill-Murray its first loss of the young season, 3-1 at Plymouth. The Pioneers started strong with a 6-1 shots advantage in the first 11 minutes, and had just missed a 2-on-1 when Wayzata struck first. Tommy Bergsland's hundred foot pass sprung two forwards on a clean 2-on-0, and Luke Fairchild converted Jack Seamans' pass for the first goal. That signaled a change in play as Hill-Murray managed just 5 shots over the next 25 minutes. But they were within a shot of pulling even until the final seconds of the second period, when Wayzata's Joel Matthews picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and unleashed a wrist shot from 40 feet that went in just inside the far post. Wayzata maintained the 2-0 lead thanks to three effective penalty kills in the third, including nearly a minute of 5-on-3. Despite about nine grade A chances during the game, Hill-Murray had nothing to show for it until just under two minutes left. Ryan Petersen was tripped in the neutral zone, drawing a penalty, but Henry Eischen gathered the puck, sped up the left side, and flipped a shot into the upper far corner of the net. Chances of completing the comeback were diminished somewhat when the Pioneers took a penalty seconds later, but they still managed to create some chaos near the crease before Matthews finished it off for Wayzata with an empty net goal.
