1999-2000 Hill-Murray Hockey Section 3AA Champion
- This was the
first, and only, year that the MSHSL allowed teams to charge admission
for three exhibtion games. These were not counted in the official
record. The result was a round-robin tournament at Aldrich Arena
on Thanksgiving weekend. The next year, the regular season was
expanded to 25 games and the exhibition games were eliminated.
- The section
championship shutout of White Bear Lake is one of the greatest upset
wins in Hill-Murray history. For Pioneer fans, this is the year
Hill-Murray turned the tables on White Bear and won the playoff game
after losing the two regular season matchups, after being on the losing
end of that feat in 1995, 1996, and 1998. Dan Kehler was
outstanding, stopping 29 shots and 5 power plays, and Christian Toll
scored the game-winner in the second period.
- Kehler also
stood on his head in two conference victories over Osseo, which played
in the TCS East Division this year only. In the first game,
Kehler stopped a penalty shot and three other breakaways in overtime,
and the Pioneers won on Dan Carlson's goal with 9 seconds left.
Osseo would go on to a monumental upset of state #1 Elk River in
the Section 4AA semifinal before losing to eventual state champion
Blaine in the section final.
- The
tournament loss was Hill-Murray's fourth straight against Edina and
second in multiple overtimes in the state tournament. The
Pioneers hit two posts in the last five minutes of regulation and lost
on Steve Eastman's goal in the second overtime.
- Defenseman
and captain Steve Czech went on to Minnesota-Duluth and played in the
Frozen Four in 2004. Chris Toll played for Minnesota
State-Mankato. Dan Kehler won the MIAC playoff championship game
for St. Olaf in 2006.
