2021-2022 Hill-Murray Hockey State 3rd Place Section 4AA Champion Metro East Champion
-
Highlights included a perfect 9-0 conference record (first time since 2012) and a third straight section title punctuated by a 5-0 win over White Bear Lake, the fifth consecutive section final between the schools. In non-conference play, Hill-Murray defeated all four Lake Conference powers plus Maple Grove.
- Hill-Murray had a deep and physically large defensive core led by Leo Gruba, who won the Reed Larson award and was a Mr. Hockey finalist, and four year varsity player Axel Begley. Dylan Godbout was also a Mr. Hockey finalist, the first time Hill-Murray had two nominees in the same season.
- Jack Erickson became the starting goalie in midseason and backstopped the team to an 18-2-1 record in the games he started. His sprawling glove save in the third period of the state quarterfinal preserved a one goal lead which was the final margin of victory.
- Bill Lechner and Pat Schafhauser surpassed 500 victories as Hill-Murray varsity coaches.
- Hill-Murray won four overtime games in a season for the first time. Brendan Bonin and Anthony Madigan each had two OT game winners.
- Andover won the school's first state championship by defeating Hill-Murray 4-2 in the semifinal and Maple Grove 6-5 (2OT) in the final. Henry Sibley was renamed Two Rivers.
